Portland, Oregon: The Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center + Rosemary Anderson High School have signed a lease to occupy a full commercial kitchen in the highly anticipated fresh food Market Hall at Downtown Rockwood in Gresham, Oregon.
POIC + RAHS is a champion organization in Portland that is committed to the success of at-risk youth and adults. They provide services in education, mentoring, family outreach, employment training, and placement to more than 3,000 students, work trainees, and families annually (80% are Black and Latinx).
The POIC kitchen at the Market Hall will provide meals – previously purchased externally – to all students and staff. Students will also have the opportunity to train in food skills and later intern with fully operational small businesses in the Market Hall.
The 39,000 square foot Market Hall will also be the site of micro-restaurants, micro-retail stores, six ethnic groceries, Class-A office space, and rentable commissary kitchen space with cold storage. The building is currently under construction and on schedule to open in October 2021.
Downtown Rockwood is Gresham’s newest community empowerment project, which is centered around economic revitalization and entrepreneurship. Downtown Rockwood is located at 18535 SE Stark Street adjacent to the Rockwood/East 188th Avenue MAX stop.
